Telegram tests an Agent feature for connecting ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI with your own API key

A new feature called Agent has been spotted in the Telegram for macOS 13.1.0 beta. It will let users connect third-party AI models with their own API key.

At the time it was found, five providers were supported: OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), xAI (Grok) and OpenRouter. The list loads from the server, so Telegram can add new services without an app update.

To connect, users pick a provider and enter their key. Telegram provides links to the pages where keys can be obtained. Once set up, the @agent command becomes available.

Users can connect several providers at once and switch between them. Settings sync across devices, and Telegram stores the date each connection was added and the last four characters of the key.

When connecting, the key passes through Telegram’s servers, which check that it’s valid and that the provider is available. It’s still unclear exactly how @agent will work: in a private chat, through inline mode or some other way. The feature is being developed separately from AI Editor, isn’t available to regular users yet, and no launch date has been announced.
